Description: This is Richard Allen at the University of Iowa. This video demonstrates treatment of an external chalazion of the left lower lid.A chalazion clamp is placed over the lesion and the chalazion will be approached externally due to the anterior positioning of the lesion and the thinness of the skin over the lesion. An 11 blade is then used to make a horizontal incision through the skin over the lesion.A chalazion curette is used to gently express any of the internal portion of the chalazion.
