A Lego-obsessed mum who has collected the bricks for 33 years makes incredible life-sized houses for her dogs out of them. <br/><br/>Lauretta Quincey, 40, got her first box of Lego when she was seven years old.<br/><br/>She loved it and collecting became her passion - even after growing up and having children of her own. <br/><br/>Now, the mum-of-three, has amassed several hundred thousand bits of Lego which she stores in cabinets around her home.<br/><br/>And her favourite hobby is building life-sized dog houses for her dogs - each one bigger and more elaborate than the last.<br/><br/>They take around three weeks to build - with Lauretta working on them for three to four hours a day - and over 10 hours to break down again afterwards.<br/><br/>Lauretta, a survey assistant, from from Unity, Saskatchewan, Canada, said: \

In the second in our Meet the Makers series Matt Stephenson visit Treske Furniture in Thirsk.<br/><br/>There’s a timeless spirit about the towns and villages in the Hambleton and Ryedale districts of North Yorkshire: despite the traffic that zooms through on the busy ‘A’ roads, there’s a feeling that the Kilburn White Horse looks down on the landscape and sees that not everything has changed.<br/>A certain constancy and a respect for tradition underpin the work of Thirsk-based furniture company Treske - and a definite ‘Yorkshire-ness’ too.<br/><br/>“We’re a small company, everybody knows everybody here,” explains CEO Justin Bartlett. “We’re part of the fabric of the town, most of our people live here, we’re an important part of the community and that keeps us rooted in the locality.”<br/><br/>Treske was established in 1973 by ex-Ampleforth College pupil John Gormley – who, despite being a Londoner by birth, found his spiritual home under the gaze of the monumental White Horse and decided to establish his business in Thirsk.<br/><br/>Thirsk appears in the Domesday book as Tresche, the name deriving from the Old Norse for fen or lake. Tresche /Treske/ Thirsk – are different ways of spelling the same thing.<br/><br/>The influence of the Benedictine monks at Ampleforth was clear in Gormley’s approach at Treske, a sense of the Benedictine values of community, stewardship, hospitality and discipline being at the heart of the business, which still occupies the same old maltings that Gormley moved into more than 50 years ago.<br/><br/>In the late 1960s and early 1970s there was a growing interest in self-sufficiency and craft, and Treske can be seen broadly as part of that movement.<br/><br/>Local apprentices literally lived on the premises, learning age-old skills from time-served cabinet makers, eating with Gormley and family at the end of the day, sitting on Treske chairs at Treske tables and sleeping in Treske bunks.<br/><br/>The furniture itself was simple and elegant whilst being robust and well-made, Shakerish-style for a Yorkshire farmhouse, kind-of Habitat-meets-Ercol: “Yorkshire furniture for Yorkshire people with Yorkshire timber.”<br/><br/>Gormley was well-known around local markets and fairs, where he’d set up stall and sell direct to the public. Some years later, and a few miles up the A1 from Thirsk, Gormley’s youngest brother Anthony – also an old Ampleforthian - would also produce work that blended elements of the White Horse with certain religious overtones – the Angel of The North quickly became one of the UKs most-loved works of public art.<br/><br/>In parallel with making furniture for the home, John Gormley also began to produce ecclesiastical furniture – again, the Ampleforth education clearly played a part, a feeling for church buildings being close to Gormley’s heart.<br/><br/>“It’s a side of the business which is still incredibly important to us today,\

Members of Tenby RNLI were involved in a dramatic sea rescue on Saturday evening that saw a casualty pulled from the water after a yacht was destroyed by fire.<br/>Emergency services including - fire and ambulance crews were all on the scene at Tenby harbour for several hours whilst the Tenby’s all-weather lifeboat the Haydn Miller conducted checks around the locality for any further casualties.<br/>The lifeboat was tasked to launch just after 7pm on Bank Holiday Saturday, May 25, following a report of smoke sighted offshore by a member of the public at Stackpole.<br/>The Tenby volunteer crew were quickly on the water and as they rounded St Margaret’s Island just off Caldey, they spotted smoke on the horizon, some 12 miles south.<br/>On reaching the scene, they found a 35ft yacht which had been almost totally destroyed by fire and the occupant of the yacht in the water, barely afloat and disappearing under the surface. <br/>A crew member immediately entered the water to keep the casualty afloat, whilst the remaining crew readied to bring him aboard. Once onboard, casualty care was administered, while the lifeboat made best speed to the harbour at Tenby, where multiple Welsh Ambulance resources were waiting.<br/>With the casualty unable to confirm if he was alone on the yacht or not, the lifeboat headed back to the scene to commence a search, where they were also joined by Angle all-weather lifeboat and Coastguard rescue helicopters from St Athan and Newquay in Cornwall.<br/>Having thoroughly searched area for several hours in choppy seas and heavy rain and with nobody else reported missing, the search was brought to an end and all assets stood down, with the lifeboat returning to station, arriving just after 1am.<br/>“We’d like to thanks our colleagues at Milford Haven Coastguard, Angle Lifeboat RNLI and Coastguard rescue helicopters from St Athan and Newquay for their help in this complex search and also to the Welsh Ambulance service and Tenby Fire Station,” said a spokesperson for Tenby RNLI.<br/>“I was a great multi-agency effort.”

A young Manchester United fan got the surprise of his life when he came face-to-face with his favorite player's family at Saturday's FA Cup Final. <br/><br/>The Red Devils put a disappointing season behind them at Wembley by impressively dispatching Premier League champions and rivals Manchester City and winning the FA Cup. <br/><br/>First-half goals from Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo were enough to see United lift their thirteenth FA Cup and secure European football for next season. <br/><br/>Yet, United's victory may not have been the best part of one young fan's FA Cup Final day, after a heartwarming meeting with the match winner's family on the Wembley escalator. <br/><br/>A video shared on social media shows the fan wearing the shirt of Mainoo, only to be standing in front of both the Man United midfielder's father and brother.<br/><br/>The moment occurred as father and son were traveling down one of Wembley's escalators, and the boy was asked if the player on the back of his shirt was his favorite player. <br/><br/>Once the child turns round, the voice behind the camera reveals that Mainoo is his son, much to the total amazement of the father and his son. <br/><br/>They are then introduced to the England star's big brother, who can be heard laughing at the response after revealing they are Mainoo's family. <br/><br/>The interaction immediately sees the dad ask his lad to 'say hello', at which point he stops eating his crisps, wipes his hands on his jeans, and shakes the hand of Mainoo's father.<br/><br/>It would have been a proud day for Mainoo's father and brother, as they witnessed a sublime performance from the teenage sensation. <br/><br/>The midfielder was on hand to finish off a sweeping United move in the first half, putting the finishing touch to Bruno Fernandes' no-look pass to put the Red Devils 2-0 up. <br/><br/>The goal proved to be the difference after Jeremy Doku's last consolation, and Mainoo was rewarded by being named man of the match.
